It's Friday night and pubs and clubs across the land are empty, as the nation settles down to watch - you guessed it - Britain’s Got Talent.
There are just two coveted final places left - but there are eight acts in the auditorium each desperate to emerge triumphant from tonight's show! Who's gonna perform again tomorrow, still in the running for the title of Britain’s Got Talent's victor? Well, what do you think? Do you know who you think should be the ultimate winner?
The first act on stage tonight were the fabulously named Caburlesque. This eight-strong cabaret and burlesque act had promised to wear small pants for the occasion - and they didn't disappoint Piers and Simon. They certainly made some new fans this evening... and let's just say those outfits were eye-catching.
Although Amanda thought they were “much more provocative” than their audition and Piers agreed they were “a million times better”, it was Simon who dealt the crushing blow: “You should have gone much further” he slammed: “There was no personality, no humour, and you have no chance of making the final.”
Madonna Decina was the next act on stage. Madonna, who is originally from the Philippines, made Amanda cry when she auditioned in Manchester - and it looks like she'd do it again when photos of her children flash up on the screen as she belted out Witney Houston’s The Greatest Love Of All.
After an emotional performance Piers said: “I think you did your two little girls proud.” Amanda agreed and admitted she believed in Madonna when she sang. Simon again, provided the spanner in the works though: “I love you, I love your story, but this is Britain’s Got Talent, not Britain’s best story.” Two acts down six to go, could the others change Simon’s mind?
On to Anya Sparks. Oh. My. Gosh. What an outfit! Anya was a vision in turquoise and sequins, as she jiggled her way across the stage this evening. Simon didn't quite know where to look! Piers may have 'waited his whole life' for a woman like that but were he and the judges Crazy in Love for her performance?
“You are not the most talented person here” Piers said: “but for representing every hard-working mum in Britain…I love you!”
Amanda again backed Piers up calling Anya’s routine a “bountiful performance.”
Again it was Simon who put the kybosh on all of the praise, he didn’t like Anya’s performance: “I beg the British audience to stick with me tonight.”
If poor Craig Harper has been suffering from a throat infection in the run-up to tonight's show he certainly didn't show it. The Northern comic - sorry comedy impressionist - transformed from holiday camp host to hot stuff performer. We particularly loved his Enrique and his Barry White impressions - that's a really big voice for quite a slight guy!
Piers loved his act: “I don’t think you could have done a better performance if you’d tried.”
Amanda hoped the public would vote for him and thought his style of act would suit the Royal Variety Show.
Although Simon thought Craig’s audition was better than tonight’s performance, he did concede: “It’s rare to meet someone I like as much as you. If I vote with my heart, I want to see you in the final.”
Let's see how part two pans out...
