Without further ado let’s get tucked straight into the second half’s action…
Part two kicked off with the wonderful Boogie Babes from Cumbria. After a 6 hour journey down to London, the dancing girls were chomping at the bit to get out onstage and do their stuff in front of an audience of millions.
As they boogied round the stage to McFly’s Don’t Stop Me Now the crowd began to clap and jump to their feet.
“I love the outfits and I liked the dancing” said Piers after their performance.
“Absolutely infectious!” Amanda beamed: “All the love seemed to spread right out into the audience. Brilliant!”
Although he thought the song choice was “horrible” Simon did think the girls were “terrific tonight.”
Next up were husband and wife act, Vizage, who made the brave decision to continue to sing throughout their quick-change act.
Unfortunately the decision backfired on them and halfway through their act the 3rd and final buzzer sounded, and with that their hopes of performing at the Royal Variety Show had all but dashed.
“You have just committed professional suicide” blasted Piers: “It was arrogant to ignore the advice we gave you and carry on singing.”
Whilst Amanda rejected the idea that they were arrogant, she did concede that the gamble they had taken hadn’t paid off.
“It was like ordering an ice-cream and getting an onion topping on it!” Simon quipped.
Then we saw football freestyler, Jeremy Lynch, who has been one of the favourites to win the competition since he auditioned back in February. However, the ex-Arsenal youth player let his pre-match nerves get the better of him, and twice he ‘dropped the ball’ whilst showcasing his silky skills.
“As an Arsenal fan nobody was willing you on more than me” said Piers: “But in the end I think you sighed because you thought ‘oh no, I’ve blown it!”
Amanda showed Jeremy encouragement when she said: “The rest of your act was fantastic.”
The disappointment was tangible. “It’s like forgetting your words twice” said Simon afterwards: “But you are a showman, and you have star quality about you.”
Unfortunately that star quality was not enough on the night for this 20-year old from Essex.
Last on stage but by no means least was Faryl Smith. Wearing an elegant blue dress the 12-year old schoolgirl absolutely blew the audience and the judges away with her wonderful rendition of In The Arms Of Angels.
From the moment she opened her mouth and began to sing the crowd stood and watched in slack-jawed wonder: “I can’t believe you’re only 12 years old” Piers stated: “You look and sound like someone very special.”
Amanda’s agreement was so emphatic that she even offered to “kiss Piers on the mouth” if Faryl didn’t make it through to the final!
“You are one in a million” said Simon: “Potentially, you have the most incredible future ahead of you.”
So after all eight acts had performed, it was time for the Great British public to speak…
