Making an impression

Drew Cameron

Comedy mimic Drew Cameron was hoping it'd be second time lucky when he appeared on Britain's Got Talent this week.

The 49 year-old Brighton funnyman, who left the judges wanting more when he auditioned at London's Hackney Empire, has already appeared on a TV talent show. He was on the hit 60s and 70s ITV talent show Opportunity Knocks when he was twelve!

"I remember it was really exciting. I won the show on the clap-o-meter - but I was too young to make it my career at that stage".

Drew did go on to stage school where he made friends with future stars including Phil Collins and the Artful Dodger from the original movie Oliver!, Jack Wild.

"Me and Jack decided that one day, we would recreate a scene from the DH Lawrence movie, Women In Love.

"We ended up wrestling naked in his back garden. But we didn't know his grandmother was looking out of the top bedroom window at us, from above!"

Jack went onto to become godfather to Drew's daughter, while Drew and his wife Sheila shied away from a life treading the boards, opening the full time Shandy stage school, in Brighton, instead.

"If I had kept up my impressions instead of becoming a headmaster I would probably have been burnt out by now. But because I returned to something I love at this stage in my life, I've rediscovered my drive to do well.

Rediscovered his drive? No wonder the Formula 1 jokes went down well!
