Show 4: Best bits
Date added: 03/05/2008

The nights are getting longer, our sleeves are getting shorter, and as spring turns into summer a fever has swept the nation.

From courtrooms to classrooms throughout the country one burning question is on the tip of everybody’s tongue: ‘Has Britain Got Talent?’

If the first act featured on tonight’s show was anything to go by, the answer would be an emphatic ‘NO!’

Howling The Phantom of the Opera like a dog, as Edelweiss Warby did, is never going to win you any prizes… it may end up getting you an ASBO at your suffering neighbours’ request, but an act fit for a (future) king it is not.

Something that might be a little more up Prince Charles’ street, considering what a ‘hip’ kind of guy he is, are the freestyle football skills of Jeremy Lynch.

The ultra-confident 20-year old blew the socks off the Judges, with his silky samba skills and amazing ball control.

“I liked him a lot” admitted Piers after his audition: “I think he’s a real find, that guy has got something.”

Another act who got the Judges excited was 19-year old belly dancer, Sophie Mei. With all the right curves in all the right places, the university student mesmerised the crowd, the men in particular, with her flowing hips and rolling tummy.

“You’ve got a great belly for belly dancing”, Piers remarked: “Your wiggle, or wobble is really good!”

Simon appeared fixated by her sensual moves: "It's an absolute yes from me!" He said with a huge smile on his face.

In a night that proved British OAPs have still got talent, Leonard Bennett was one of the stars. The 72-year old granddad of nine displayed the type of strength akin only to Popeye or Geoff Capes! His two-fingered chin-up routine was enough to send him through, with Amanda stating: “You could show this clip all over the world and people would still find it entertaining!”

But the undoubted star of the show was Dean Wilson and his stellar rendition of Why God Why at the Manchester auditions.

So after digesting this king-sized feast of family entertainment, I think we can safely answer the question that everyone wanted to know.

Yes it has. Britain has got talent!
