We caught up with Diversity member, Jordan Banjo, to discuss winning the show, the future of the troupe, and his big brother Ashley, the dance group’s gifted choreographer.
“To get to the final of Britain’s Got Talent and actually win it is out of this world! No one expected it and to do it with my best friends and my brother makes it even more special."
Diversity wowed the public with their ultra-creative, technically proficient dance routines, and were praised by the judges for the funny and imaginative narratives that ran through their performances… so where do all the ideas come from?
“Well the magic all comes from my brother Ashley, I shouldn’t really say this because he’ll get a big head, but Ashley’s the building block for everything, he’s the guy who’s got it all: he’s smart, he’s funny, he’s handsome, and he’s absolutely wicked at coming up with dance routines!”
Jordan also believes the close knit bond the Diversity members share, coupled with the strong support from their family and friends all contribute to the dance troupe’s success.
“We all met at my mum and dad’s dance studio in Rainham, Essex, and they’ve been with us every step of the way, throughout the whole journey – my mum is so proud of us!”
When they realised they had made it through to the final two acts and were up against Susan Boyle, did the guys think that the runners-up spot was the best they could hope for?
“Susan has an amazing talent and I think she did fantastically well considering the amount of pressure she was under. Backstage before we went on for the results we were all saying to each other that ‘second is the new first’ because we thought Susan would run away with it.
“So when they announced us as the winners I was absolutely speechless, it’s hard to describe exactly how it feels, all I can say is it’s brilliant and we’re going to enjoy every minute of whatever comes our way. To be doing all this with the guys who are practically my family is amazing, I wouldn’t have it any other way."
The last few weeks have seen them capture the hearts of the nation and conquer Britain’s Got Talent, so what is next for Diversity?
“I honestly don’t know, but the sky is the limit as far as I’m concerned! We didn’t think it would get any bigger than performing at the Hammersmith Apollo where we auditioned, but it did.
"Now we’ve performed on national TV in front of millions of people and later in the year we’ll perform for the Queen at the Royal Variety – so who knows what’s around the corner?… It just keeps getting bigger and bigger – all I can say is: watch this space!”
