Britain's Got Talent

The figures are in - The Britain's Got Talent Grand Final is the most successful TV programme in the country for five years.

An amazing 19.19 million viewers - that's more than 71% of people tuned into any TV show - tuned into ITV1 to see Diversity win the Britain's Got Talent crown.

That many people haven't watched the same show since England played Portugal - and lost - in the semi finals of footy tournament Euro 2004.

This is thought to be the highest ever peak audience for a reality show on British TV.

What's more these figures are expected to rise once the ITV1 repeat and ITV2 repeat audiences are in.

Almost fifteen and a half million people sat on their sofa for two hours earlier in the evening to watch all 10 acts perform. And even those who sat down after the show started stayed watching from there in - a peak of 18.02 million (75% viewing share) were all watching at the ten past eight peak.

Over four million votes were registered. The Britain's Got Talent official website will publish voting percentages per act tomorrow (Monday).

Also, although I am a Susan fan, I picked the exact order of the winners before they were announced. I later realized this was because I had followed Simon's hints: he said Diversity was the only act he would give a 10 to; he said Aiden was not as good as before(so I ruled him out); and he loved Julian Smith, who is really good. I guess the judges intend to influence the results....it seems to me that they do that.

I would love to know all the statistics...it certainly seems that we viewers are more in love with Susan than UK viewers. I actually think it is better for her that she did not win, but she is the only reason I watched the show at all. I thought Diversity was excellent, but I don't care about them. I also did not get the humor of the Greek dancers. Susan should be compensated for drawing so many American viewers to the show!

People, people, people, Susan was a good singer with a an average look. Yes she did well but she wasn't the reason for BGT existing. Stop implying that Susan IS BGT when she isn't. Diveristy were the more talented on the night. More enjoyable to watch and clearly worked very hard. They DESERVED TO WIN! now stop putting Susan on a Pedestal. Is it any wonder she's having trouble when people forget she's a human being. Complete with flaws.

BGT's exploitation of Susan is one of the most cruel and despicable acts I've ever seen. After her incredible success on youtube, Susan no longer needed BGT, it was very clear that it was BGT that needed Susan for their little ratings bonanza. I nearly fell over when Simon Cowell tried to sell the idea that w/o the BGT finals Susan would be sitting at home alone with her cat. HARDLY. Is he that dumb? DON"T THINK SO. BGT should be held criminally responsible. I am horrified by all this.

The final was a huge anti-climax, it was great all week and the excitement was building right up until the winner was announced- i thinks everbodys jaw dropped when susan was pipped to the post by diversity, it would have made it complete for susan to win , she deserved it, the show belonged to her this year.

How come she didn't win it then?

firr31/05/2009 23:39:35

Its an amazing show...but this year its all because of suzan boyle, so Give SUSAN BOYLE credit as to why BGT was the most viewed show..... Because of Susan's popularity, ITS A FACT...

Just read comments which say BGT was only watched cos of SuBo. Wrong - the view figures are UK and so high cos us Brits luv the show. Susan's popularity here is not as big as the US. Susan was v good, but Diversity were better & the others great too. Yahoo says Diversity got 24.9% of vote vs Susan 20.2%. With 4M votes that means they got 200k (25%) more than Susan. All this stuff about vote rigging etc is nonsense. Luv him / h8 him Mr C puts on a great show and we luv it all not just SuBo
