The man who was runner-up in the public vote, only to lose out to Hollie Steel at the hands of the judges, nearly didn’t even make it to his semi-final because of a singing-related injury that’d left him unable to practice for three weeks.
We chatted to Greg earlier in the day about the problem that had been the cause of many sleepless nights.
“I’ve had a tension stress in my neck which means I haven’t been able to do any singing for weeks now… today is the first time I’ve actually sung my song out loud all the way through! I’ve been going over it in my head every day, but it’s not the same, this time last week I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to perform on the show – it’s been a nightmare really!”
However Greg was sure the Manuka Honey he was gobbling up was working wonders: “This stuff’s great!” he said in between mouthfuls.
Greg’s sore throat wasn’t the only obstacle he had to cope with last night; he was scared stiff he’d be blown off the stage due to the parachute style cape he was wearing!
Speaking after his dress rehearsal he told us: “I’m really worried I’m going to fall off the stage tonight! I’m wearing an enormous cape that’s got wires to hoist it about 20 feet in the air, and then there is a big wind machine being fired at me to make the damn thing bellow! It’s like a hot air balloon or something – if it goes wrong then it’s going to be so embarrassing!”
Fortunately for Greg he stayed rooted on his platform throughout his song, delivering a fine performance that had viewers voting in their thousands to send him through to the final. Unfortunately for Greg, he was up against Hollie Steel in the judge-off… and after what she had been through earlier in the night, he never stood a chance.
