Amanda's viewpoint...29 May 09

Amanda Holden

Last night, Amanda Holden sat in her dressing room after the final curtain fell and wrote us a few notes all about the emotions of the evening. Here's how she's feeling...

"...I found tonight's show quite hard to deal with, emotionally - and I think that was because I found it was really rubbish having a day off. I tried to do lovely things In Kew Gardens with my daughter but I just couldn't focus!!

The fourth semi-final was a rollercoaster for me, because we lurched from one extreme to another. We saw lovely, funny Fabia, Julian on sax and then 2 Grand - what a mix! Every time they sing it makes me weep!! For all the right reasons. It is not the story of the Grandmother passing away but the lovely relationship they have. It’s gorgeous and sincere and everyone loves them.

It was tough for me to have to let such a talent like Callum go but hopefully someone out there will recognise what he has and give him a chance! He is a delight and really handled our decision like a pro. If he had been on a different show he would have gone through.

Julian Smith was wonderful tonight. I don't think I thought I could ever feel such emotion form someone playing the sax. I think it’s because he puts his entire soul into it and that spills into the audience.

He won the vote almost outright tonight and his place in the final is utterly deserved.

Behind the scenes on the show, I am really missing Simon being on the same floor as Piers and me!! I can't walk up all the stairs in my heels to check on him!! But Piers, of course, is right next door!! Practically adjoining. We share the same loo and make-up artist! So I have no choice but to check on him regularly!

I still can't believe how fast the week is going!! I JUST DONT WANT IT TO END!!!

Looking forward to next week! Am now also doing Larry King Live! How surreal is that??!!

I always forget to mention what a bloody brilliant job Ant and Dec do every night!!

Ant, Dec YOU DO A BRILLIANT JOB!!!!  WE LOVE YOU XXXXXX

It looks to me like someone artificially raised the tension behind the scenes to the point that it seriously affected the quality of the final show. Just compare the "Audition" and "Finals" video's of Susan Boyle's performance and Amanda's face - Susan performed twice better and Amanda looked twice better in the "Audition". It's really the production of the show that needs to improve - to shield key people instead of pumping up backstage tension. Julian Smith remained cool and sounded great.

i have watched it from the west midlands and i thourght either susan, hollie, aidan, callum or 2 grand should have won i liked aidan because he has great moves better than george sampson too and susan and hollie had great voices.now callum had the cheekiest little grin i have ever seen.but the best was 2 grand the bond between grandfather and grandaughter was amazing. and well done to all the judges and ant and dec you are the best!!!!!!!!!

I am watching from New York (not City, but Upstate), and am enjoying this event so much. It's amazing that there are so many people with these wonderful talents who are willing to step out on that stage and share them. It's unbelievable. Thanks so much Amanda, Piers and Simon for your reactions and responses. It's been a grand ride!

I am really sorry that sentimentality rules instead of judging true, raw talent. I wonder where the sense is when judging whether an act will truly be proper to present before the Queen. Knowing that she is older than I am, I think she would be appalled at some of the acts the judges would think suitable to present to her. I think perhaps Simon is the only one with some sense.
