Britain’s Got More Talent poet Eugene – AKA 37 year-old Adam Gitlin – left the judges all-of-a-flutter after his successful audition.
And by the time our three judges had all left similar (positive) opinions he was certainly getting to know the drill.
Adam, from Plymouth, must've been glad he'd spent so much time polishing his routine.
But even if showbiz doesn’t work out for Adam, he has a career to fall back on in the dentistry field.
He confirmed to us, “It’s true – I am dentist”.
“And if they've watched the show, I guess my patients have just found out what I do with my spare time”.
Hoping they haven’t been put off by his oddball alter-ego, he told us, “I think there is a time and a place for humour – and I’m not sure that when someone is sitting in the dentists’ chair, that is it!”
“You can have a bit of a joke maybe at the beginning and the end but in the middle you need to be on the ball, basically”.
“After all, if you saw your surgeon coming in for a lifesaving heart bypass with a big red nose and a spinny tie, it wouldn’t give you an awful lot of confidence”!
However, Adam reckons he could at least elicit a bit of a nervous laugh from his patients.
He grinned, “To be honest if you were to tell your patients a joke I think they would probably laugh...”
“...After all, you are certainly in a position of power!”
Adam told us, “To be honest, I only entered Britain’s Got Talent on a bit of a punt really”.
“My comedy career would have to take off to an amazing lever for me to give up the day job”.
I’ve trained for five years to be a dentist – that’s a lot of work”.
He explained, “It consisted of actually learning to be a dentist for two weeks. Then four and a half years more to understand what people are saying when you have your fingers in their mouths…!”
