Blimey, it’s only ex-Spice Girl Meaniel C on the blower and she’s dying to talk about last night’s stomper of a show as our very first celebrity blogger!
Up for a girly-goss, the lovely and talented Mel C chats about Only Boys Aloud being inspirational, Sam Kelly’s hotness and Dennis Egel’s fashion-sense. Pssst! She also lets slip how Simon turned down an offer to sign up the Spice Girls back in the day. Yikes, bet he’s kicking himself now...
Sooo, what did you make of last night’s show?
This is undoubtedly the best series yet. There was more backstage content than ever and it really gave an insight into the contestants’ lives. The show also provided plenty of ‘OMG! Did you just see that?’ moments. There was some genuine talent and a fair few odd-balls - I do love the eccentric acts.
Speaking of unusual characters. Thoughts on Dennis Egel?
Oh my Lord! Dennis was rubbish but strangely intriguing. Admittedly he’s an awful singer but I’d love to see him again. That outfit provided a surreal, fun element to proceedings.
Did you enjoy Jonathan and Charlotte?
Jonathan stole the show, what a star! He is an incredible singer. I was saddened to see that he suffers from confidence issues so I really hope BGT gives him the boost he needs.
Charlotte seems nice too, doesn’t she?
Charlotte is such a loyal, supportive friend. She's very talented, but she accepts that Jonathan is the better singer and bears no resentment. I think it’s great that there’s no rivalry between them. She took Simon’s constructive criticism on the chin, I admire that.
What did you make of Only Boys Aloud?
There’s a lot of much bad press about young people, so it’s great to see the UK’s youth portrayed in such a positive way. These guys are making something of their lives and inspiring us all in the process.
Are you a fan of Barbara and Bradley’s ‘dancetry?’
Ha! Don’t you mean ‘The Owl and the Pussycat?’ I’m afraid Bradley stole Barbara’s thunder. It was hard to concentrate on Barbara’s poetry with him busting moves in the background.
What about Sam Kelly?
Before he opened his mouth to sing, I knew there was something special about him. He’s a really talented, good-looking fella. .
Do you like the new judging line-up?
I’m a real fan. Amanda’s expertly qualified to Judge and I have a lot of respect for all she’s done in theatre. David’s one-liners are hilarious, Alesha is utterly gorgeous and Simon’s straight-talking is always entertaining.
We’re guessing you have met Simon before…
I have and he’s always been really nice, but he’s not always right - he rejected an offer to sign the Spice Girls back in the day. (In the words of Pretty Woman, ‘Big Mistake, HUGE!’).
Speaking of The Spices, when did you last see the girls?
I saw Emma and Geri the other month for a girly catch-up. Victoria and I hooked up in January, I love her new clothing line and she gave me a few frocks that I’ll definitely be wearing for special occasions.
Mel C recently released an amazing fifth studio album The Sea and will be touring throughout the year. A busy bee; she's also currently putting the finishing touches to Spice Girls: The Musical, (we're actually hyperventilating with excitement over this), and will shortly be joining forces with Andrew Lloyd Webber to help find a lead for Jesus Christ Superstar.
