His power-packed vocals won the heart of the nation and saw him crowned BGT winner on Saturday night.
Winner Jai on Daybreak

But as this year's champion Jai McDowall revealed on Daybreak this morning, scooping the top prize wasn't his first experience of singing success.

Speaking to presenters Kate Garraway and Adrian Chiles, the talented Scot - who blew audiences away with his amazing performance of To Where You Are - said: "I actually won a karaoke competition when I was nine. I was on holiday in Spain and I even got a trophy!"

And while it might not quite measure up to the scale and spectacle of Britain's Got Talent, it certainly planted the idea of singing in the young Jai's brain!

Speaking of his phenomenal BGT win, the care worker, 24, said: "It's just completely surreal. I know I'll never get bored of watching the tape back of the moment I won."

And when it comes to his BGT runner -up Ronan Parke, Jai's got nothing but good things to say.

"Ronan is such a good wee kid," he said. "By the end of the competition we'd all got to know each other so well. He's got such a talent - he will make it, no question."

So, what's next for Jai?

"I would absolutely consider a duet with Susan Boyle," he told Adrian. "I suppose it's more a question of whether she'd fancy doing one with me!"
