Is it just us, or do most boy bands these days actually consist of men rapidly approaching middle age? All the greats, from Take That to The Backstreet Boys and Boyzone have made comebacks, but now it seems a little generous to tag them with the boy band label…

So it was refreshing when the five lads of Connected walked onto the BGT stage with aspirations of making it as a band consisting of, well, boys and named the previous princes of pop as their inspiration.

Could these Mancunians, ranging from 12 to15 years old, be the start of a new breed of boy band?

Well, Simon didn’t seem to think so, describing them as “15 years out of date “, but going by Piers', Amanda's and the crowd’s reaction to their performance, Connected could just be on to something.

“We’d like to be like Boyz II Men, Take That, Westlife, The Jackson Five…  groups like that,” explained lead singer Harry when we caught up with the gang before the big stage debut.

“ We just all love to sing together. We’re the best of friends!”

The group was formed when they all met at their performance school. Harry and Max are brothers, Miles and Connor are twins and then there’s Matt, who’s just a friend. But then again they’re “all brothers really”, according to Harry.

“Our dream right now is to impress the judges today and go into the next round of Britain’s Got Talent. In the future we’d like to be worldwide superstars and go everywhere,” continued Harry, looking more excited than nervous.

Well, judging from the screams coming from the audience after their rendition of Ain't No Mountain High Enough we’re pretty sure these boys have some serious pop potential!

Do you think the lads of Connected have what it takes to make it as the next big boy band? Leave your comment below...

Why are there so many dance acts? I want to see tap dancing, comedians and sword throwers. Variety is the spice of life, after all.

awwww, these lads are soooo sweet. However, THEY CANT SING! Britains got TALENT Mr Cowell, start voting for it. Neil is talented and sings fantastically well, he also had a chance in the final, which these lads haven't got a hope. Such a shame.

We think the judges got it wrong and should have voted for Neil instead of Connected who have plenty of time to do well. I have been a long time fan of Frank Sinatra and have not heard anyone as good. I think he would be perfect to work with the Rat-pack who we saw perform at Malvern. What a waste if he has to go back to his day job! It may be up to Simon to pull a few strings. Will Neil be asked to go on the 'live' tour?
