Susan Boyle - better than a budgie!15 Apr 09

Susan Boyle

No straight jacket required!

Britain’s Got Talent sensation Susan Boyle may not have made a living from her singing just yet – but that hasn’t stopped her making the most of her talents.

Susan is now a world-wide sensation – but her singing talents first appeared much closer to home.

She told us: “I do sing at church – and I also do a bit of amateur dramatics. I sing everywhere I can, to anybody who will really listen. They would be better off with a budgie though, do you not think?”

“I even performed at the Edinburgh Festival once, on the fringe. I was in a production of Romeo and Juliet. Was I Juliet? I don’t know what I was supposed to be. The tights were an embarrassment. But it was a laugh-a-minute magical for kids”.

If Susan makes it far enough in this competition, however, her audience won’t be school kids – it’d be Her Majesty the Queen! And that would suit Susan just fine.

She said, “Whatever comes my way, I am ready. It would be lovely to sing for the Queen. There would be less of the carry on from me, and more of the singing”.

“She is a very regal lady, very nice, so I would be nice too, and just get up there and give it a bit of wellie.”

And Susan isn’t worried that the showbiz life would send her off the rails like so many stressed-out stars before her. She laughs, “It’s a challenge.  Life is a challenge sometimes but this is different. And I like to test myself”.

“If it all gets too much and they lock me up, I want a great big straight jacket with spots on it. A pink one…”

“…And a big zip on the back so I can escape!”

Can Susan make it to meet the Queen? Let us know below!

Susan, You have meant so much to me, just hearing your beautiful voice on video. I am a shut in, and your music is an uplifting part of my day. I am praying for you to have a speedy recovery and that you might once again astound this world with your voice. Never change, Susan. Your personality and unique wit are a part of your charm. I know you will one day get to sing before the Queen. Love from the USA. Mary

Susan Boyle is one of the most moving performers to appear in ages. A super talent worthy of the praise heaped upon her. I couldn't be more disgusted with BGT's mishandling of Susan and for turning her dream into a nightmare. No one should be admitted to hospital because of a greedy talent show's desire for bigger ratings. I was so concerned when I saw her perform clearly under extreme duress. I'm afraid they have killed the goose that laid the golden egg. My heart bleeds for Susan.

Susan, You have an amazing voice. I'm so tired of the beautiful, glamorous people who make with no talent at all. Your voice, song, and presentation were so refreshing and entertaining. I too am looking to your first CD. I also wanted you to win in first place but I believe you can still have a singing career.

It will be a close run thing between Susan, Diversity and the young Rugby Player guy but I think Susan will edge it. If nothing else she deserves it for plucking this mediocre show from bordering on the Dull and Plain to the Entire world talking about it.

We love Susan Boyle in Bolivia. Please, those who can vote, vote for her. We hate what the written press is doing. They never take into account people's feelings. They are sensationalists but never solidarious. At this point, excellence in performance is important, but the potential Susan has is undeniable. It will last forever.

how i agree with maria d. Hollie Steel should definitley not have been given a second chance, good voice but tears and tantrums dont make a worthy finalist. I am sure lots of the other acts suffered with nerves but no one else was given a second chance, totally biased. I am still mad that the drummer boy did not get through, he was brilliant and had far more talent than some of the ridiculous acts we have seen in the semis this week. Good luck to Julian and Flawless. Theres talent.

Can someone please explain why Hollie Steel was allowed a second chance after crying and a slight tantrum when told there would not be enough time, when Susan Boyle was crucified by the Media this week for one wrong note? Surely it is unfair for one person to be given a second chance when others have the one and only chance? I feel the children who have been crying are unprepared for failure/rejection. They go on believing they are going to win the final. Their parents have a sin to answer for!
